Who Is Alex McEwen and What Does He Do?
A 22-year-old lady was murdered in Brisbane’s central business area in 2013, and McEwan is currently on trial in the city’s Supreme Court for her murder.
Ms. Ban was beaten to death in Wickham Park in the wee hours of November 24, 2005, until she was no longer recognisably her own person.
McEwan has admitted to the manslaughter of Ms. Ban, but not her murder, in exchange for a reduced sentence.
When the prosecution heard the plea, they claimed that he had intended to murder the Korean student.
Following a consultation with McEwan’s counsel, John Allen, QC, it was determined that the client, who was 19 at the time of his imprisonment, suffered from schizophrenia and should be found not guilty of murder due to diminished responsibility.
